Jacques' Photos
Jacques Coetzee was involved in the cross-over of the Hippo Road Mulapo - (a Mulapo is lower lying ground that fills when the Zambezi overspills it's banks) - and supplied these photos. For a number of Lodges and private residences this is the only road leading to them. This Mulapo does not usually flood, but when it started, people realized they had to get their vehicles across and to safety. They then leave their vehicles at designated spots and use boats to travel to and from home. You will note the quick deterioration of the road on the eastern side. Because water came over so fast, Kobus Blaauw used his tractor to pull cars to safety as they would not otherwise make it. The photos shows Christoph Rocher lending him helping hand where possible.
